Edward Caspers is a Figurative Expressionist artist of fine and tough images. His creative works stem from a foundation of drawing from life and figure study. Born in 1966 and raised in Southern California, he earned his baccalaureate degrees in English and Fine Arts at the University of Massachusetts, Lowell and his MFA in Painting at the University at Buffalo, SUNY. Working in multiple drawing and painting mediums, Caspers’ Art conveys themes of life, loss, violence, romance and angst. The works contain a persistent agnostic probing of the “why” of life and the underlying knowledge and disdain for man’s inhumanity to man. His paintings are allegorical mysticisms containing figures caught in acts ranging from pure romantic love to heinous violence. At other times, his subjects occupy a quiet and nebulous netherworld of emotional conveyance. Caspers is a series painter. He explores each theme through multiple pieces packed with gestural brushstrokes and a bold use of color. His compositions range from wildly frenetic to eerily silent, his figures engaged in various acts and frozen in time. Carefully employed symbols such as crows, ladders, bridges, trees and neighborhoods occupy the space. They imply the mundane but suggest something more. Caspers works are contained in private collections. He has won juried prizes and exhibited his works throughout the United States.
